Important Information

CBD is given to animals for the same reason people take it. Pain, inflammation, stress, fear, separation anxiety, sleep and or neurological issues. Remember, the half-life of CBD in a cat is only 2 hours. In a dog it’s only 4 hours. In people it’s 18-30 hours. This means that every 2 hours the amount of CBD in your cat’s bloodstream is cut in half. In your dog, every 4 hours the amount of CBD is cut in half. This is a factor pet owners have to take into consideration when purchasing and dosing CBD.

DOSING – Since the half-life of CBD in pets is so short we always suggest starting with the 5000 mg tincture.  Whether it’s a person, dog or cat our suggested dose is 1/2 to 1 full pipette (or as much is drawn up when the bulb is squeezed) twice a day to start. We have customers with elderly dogs and cats in pain, and dogs with cancer, that are receiving these doses and it really makes a difference in their pain, mobility and quality of life. These dogs probably weigh 35-60 pounds while the cats are 10-15 pounds. To start, we wouldn’t dose less than 1/2 of a pipette twice a day regardless of the size of your dog or cat. Why? You want to give them enough CBD to see how it helps them. You can then increase or decrease the dose (amount and frequency) as needed.

SUGGESTION – We suggest our customers squirt the CBD tincture directly in their dog or cat’s mouth or cheek if they like the taste, remembering the pipette is glass so be careful. Or squirt the entire amount on a piece of bread (or absorbable treat) with a bit of peanut butter on it. That way if it’s a dog, they eat it all at once and the fat from the peanut butter helps with CBD absorption. We don’t like the idea of putting it on hard or dry food and having them eat it throughout the day. CBD seems to work better if it’s one large dose. And we know cats can be picky eaters compared to dogs. Therefore you might have to get creative. A small amount of wet cat food mixed with their CBD tincture would work. Again, if you can get the entire amount in them at one time that would be better. We suggest also starting off with 1/2 to 1 full pipette twice a day and then adjust the dosing as needed.

NOTE – In addition to giving them CBD orally, you can also rub the tincture oil on the front of your pet’s ears where there’s no hair. It will be absorbed through their skin like it’s absorbed through the mucus membranes in the mouth. The tincture can also be applied topically to your pet’s skin irritations or hot spots as well. CBD is extremely safe for humans and pets. Therefore, it’s not going to harm them if you accidentally give your pet too much. The more relief they need, the more CBD you can give them.
